SPRINGFIELD — Christina Aguilera’s song from the 2010 film “Burlesque” describes it best: “Underneath the city lights, there is a world few know about.”

But the movie, as fun and sexy as it is, doesn’t tell the whole story about burlesque as an art form and the amount of work that goes into putting on a good show, said Erin Lamont, choreographer and director of The Lalas, an all-female burlesque revue coming to MGM Springfield just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend.

“In terms of burlesque, people usually go to the movie, which is an amazing thing because the movie was great,” Lamont said in a phone interview with The Republican.

“But I feel like it does get a bad rep. In terms of male revues, everyone knows who they are. We are the only show that does what we do at the caliber that we do it at.”

The Lalas, based out of Los Angeles, was founded in 2010 and started booking casino gigs a few years after that, and from there, “it literally tumbled” into the successful touring show it is today, Lamont said.
